Jannik Sinner has moved on to the final of the Madrid Open after a straight-sets win over Arthur Fils, 6-2, 6-4.
The Italian was in complete control throughout the match, booking his place in a fifth straight Masters 1000 final. Fils didnât play badly by any stretch, but there was never a point where he looked like he might turn it around against the world number one.
Following the match, former doubles player Colin Fleming shared his thoughts on what Fils should focus on next.
Colin Fleming suggests what Arthur Fils should do after Jannik Sinner loss
During Sky Sportsâ post-match coverage, Fleming spoke about the next steps for the young Frenchman.
âHe [Jannik Sinner] really has shown the gap between someone like himself and [Arthur] Fils,â he said.
â[Carlos] Alcaraz showed it when he played Fils in the Doha final.
âFils should not be disheartened. He should go away and analyse these matches in depth with his team, and go, okay, these are the three or four things where I need to make the big improvements.
Arthur Fils Builds on strong start to 2026 Season despite Madrid Open loss
When Arthur Fils made his comeback in February after a six-month injury break, few would have predicted just how well heâd settle back in.
Heâs now played seven tournaments since then, reaching at least the quarter-finals in all but one.
This consistent run has already moved him into the top eight of the âLive ATP Race to Turinâ, putting him on track for a possible debut at the year-end championships.
Even though thereâs still a long way to go this season, staying healthy and keeping up this level could see him qualify for his first Finals appearance. Next up is the Italian Open in Rome, starting Tuesday, May 5.
