Jannik Sinner has found his way into yet another Masters 1000 final, this time by easing past Arthur Fils in straight sets in the Madrid Open semi-finals.

It was a match that looked like it could be competitive on paper, with both players having been unbeaten on clay coming in. But Sinner’s class showed early, taking control of the first set and closing out the second with ease to extend his Masters 1000 winning streak to 27 matches.

Sinner started by sharing his thoughts on his performance, telling Sky Sports: “I was very, very happy.”

“One more final here,” he continued. “It’s an amazing result. For me, the most important was trying to raise my level today, which I have done, especially in the first set. I was very aggressive and changing direction very well, and I felt the ball very well in the first set.

“In the second set, it changed a bit with the new balls. It was more bouncy. But at the same time, very happy to close it out in two. It means a lot to me.”

Then asked about his serve and volley game and if he felt like he had fully developed that part of his game: “Mastering? I don’t know. There are some shots where I feel there is a bit more feel to learn still.

“A couple of drop shots were slightly long on the forehand side. Backhand it is going a little bit better.

He added: “For example, the drop shot down the line is still missing with backhand. I am trying to go to net a bit more too – this I feel can improve.”

Sinner is drawing comparisons to Rafael Nadal as he continues breaking records at just 22 years old.

Nobody even comes close at this stage outside of Carlos Alcaraz or Novak Djokovic when at their peak.

This accomplishment has only ever been achieved by Federer back in 2006 and Nadal back in 2011 – some pretty elite company for Sinner there!
