Rafa Jodarâs rise through the ATP ranks has been hard to miss. The young Spaniard has strung together seven straight wins and is looking to make it two titles in as many weeks.
When you look at tennis nations, few have the depth of Spain. Not only do they have a long list of Grand Slam winners, but theyâve also produced legends like Rafael Nadal and rising stars like Carlos Alcaraz.
Now, Jodar is starting to put himself in that conversation. Heâs already hit a milestone both Nadal and Alcaraz reached early on, which says a lot about where he could be headed. His next opponent, Arthur Fils, will be well aware of what heâs up against.
Rafa Jodar matches achievements of Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz
Jodar, now 19, finds himself in rare company among Spanish tennis players. While a few have hit similar milestones at his age, itâs the names of Alcaraz and Nadal that naturally stand out.
Heâs the newest addition to a short list of teenagers whoâve made it to the Barcelona Open semi-finals, joining not only those two but also Alex Corretja and Carlos Moya.
Thatâs impressive company for someone fresh off a title in Marrakesh. Still, this run at home is turning into the most significant chapter of his young career so far.
âI donât know whatâs going on in Spain right now, but they have so many young talents,â Fils said. âThereâs Carlos, of course, but even when heâs not there they have kids like Jodar who hits the ball incredibly well.â
âItâs impressive what he is doing. You can see he has great potential,â added Fils. âThis week is showing just how strong he can become.â
The Barcelona draw has been wide open since Alcaraz withdrew with injury issues again. Jodar even reached out after hearing the news to send his best wishes to the world number three.
Rafa Jodar has been climbing the world rankings at an impressive pace
Jodarâs rise has been rapid. You only have to look at how far heâs moved up the rankings to see it, now sitting at 42nd in the live standings.
If he keeps this form going, thereâs no reason he canât push for a seeded spot at Roland Garros. Heâs still got matches left in Barcelona before heading to Madrid and Rome, where he didnât even play in the main draws last year.
Back then, he was 150th and still relatively unknown. Now, Jodar is turning that potential into real results, and thereâs every reason to believe heâll keep rising from here.
