The Ohio State women’s tennis team made quick work of Youngstown State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday with a 4-0 sweep to move on to Round 2. The Buckeyes got things started by taking the lead with doubles victories from Sophia Cisse-Ignatiev and Audrey Spencer, and Flora Johnson and Luciana Perry.

Up 1-0, the Buckeyes continued their dominance in the singles matches with Johnson, Perry, and Alessia Cau each winning in straight sets to give the Buckeyes the 4-0 win.  Johnson beat Dudova 6-1, 6-2 on court six to give Ohio State a 2-0 lead. That was followed up by No. 4-ranked Perry defeating Telzynska 6-1, 6-0 on court one for a 3-0 OSU lead. Alessia Cau then clinched the victory on court five against Line Greyling 6-1, 6-0 to punch Ohio State’s ticket to the second round.

With the win, Ohio State improved its record to 24-4 overall. The Buckeyes will play Notre Dame on Sunday, which also advanced earlier by beating the Arizona Wildcats in a hard-fought 4-3 battle. The two will play at Noon ET.

An OSU win on Sunday would move the No. 3 seed Buckeyes into a Super Regional, more than likely against Vanderbilt. When those results are known, we’ll bring them to you.
