The tennis calendar ticks forward with the top players not involved in the Mutua Madrid Open finals in Rome preparing for the Italian Open. Doubles sometimes gets second billing, but it will not at the Italian Open with the news that Coco Gauff and Caty McNally, the “McCoco” duo reuniting to play together.
Gauff, 22, and McNally, 24, played a lot of doubles together in their younger years, winning three WTA titles and finishing as 2021 US Open finalists.Then, they parted ways and had successful stints playing and winning with other partners.

McCoco is a fun throwback
Many thought there was a conflict between the two teenage stars who were also pursuing singles careers.
McNally denied that to be the case and always considered Gauff to be a close friend, but people were skeptical. Gauff also never gave any impression there was an issue beyond scheduling conflicts. This reunion shows everyone that any perceived conflict between the two was fake news.

Gauff has played a lot of doubles, including winning the French Open in 2024 with Katerina Siniakova, but there is something about the All-American doubles teams that excites fans.

We watched McCoco grow up and hoped to see them play a lot longer together so this is a special treat in Rome.
Wouldn’t it be great if McCoco could break the American women’s doubles curse at the Italian Open? No all-American doubles team has won the title since 1981 when Candy Reynolds and Paula Smith were crowned champions.
