Tennis: Lady Lions get 3-2 win against Lady Jets

With a competitive 3-set victory at No. 1 doubles, the Lady Lions held off visiting Hauser 3-2 in tennis action Tuesday.

Rushville swept No. 1 and No. 2 singles, and Hauser took the No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles matches.

Rushville’s No. 1 doubles team of Cora Morgan and Kelsey Morgan took the opening set 6-2 against Abby Manley and Kaycee Ridgley. Hauser rallied to win the second set 6-3 and send the match to a deciding third set. The Lady Lions duo controlled the final set, winning 6-2 to give the Lady Lions the 3-2 team victory.

At No. 1 singles, Rushville’s Izzy Simmermon defeated Isabella Price 7-6 (7-5), 6-3. Rushville’s Annie Buzzard won the No. 2 singles match 6-2, 6-4 against Ruby McKinney.

At No. 3 singles, Rushville’s Grace Doll was defeated by June Berkenstock 6-3, 6-2. Rushville’s No. 2 doubles team of Elise Cain and Karigan Cox fell 7-5, 6-3 to Lyla Konradi and Madaline Wilmer.

In junior varsity action, Rushville’s Brylee Shaver defeated Stella Berkenstock 8-4 and Kennedy Miller lost to Riley Deiwert 8-4.

The Lady Lions return to action Thursday against visiting Lawrenceburg.

Greensburg 3, Oldenburg Academy 2

With a sweep in the singles matches, the Lady Pirates posted a 3-2 victory against Oldenburg Academy.

At No. 1 singles, Greensburg’s Mary Harmon defeated Lilly Vanderpohl 6-3, 6-1. At No. 2 singles, Greensburg’s Emma Kuntz knocked off Frankie Fry 6-4, 7-6 (7-1). At No. 3 singles, Greensburg’s Adelynn Stier cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win against Mary Kara Wanstrath.

Greensburg’s No. 1 doubles team of Mya Comer and Averi Helms lost to OA’s Hunter and Hoffman in a 3-setter 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.At No. 2 doubles, Greensburg’s Sophie Buening and Kiera Kennelly were defeated 6-3, 6-4 by Nobbe and Miles.

In junior varsity action, Greensburg’s Eleanor Davis (8-0), Chloe Wentzel (6-1) and Allie Schroeder (6-4) all won in singles. Greensburg’s Rachel Lipps lost a tight match 7-6 (13-11). The doubles team of Veda Fox and Maya Kennelly won 8-7.

Greensburg 5, Hauser 0

The Lady Pirates won all five varsity matches against Hauser in five sets to claim the 5-0 victory.

Greensburg’s Mary Harmon won the No. 1 singles match against Hayden Dickey 6-3, 6-0. At No. 2 singles, Greensburg’s Emma Kuntz won 6-1, 6-0 against Isabella Price. Greensburg’s Adelynn Stier knocked off June Berkenstock 6-2, 6-3.

The Lady Pirates picked up an EIAC victory against Connersville 3-2.

At No. 1 singles, Greensburg’s Mary Harmon was defeated by Sophia Starr 6-4, 7-5. At No. 2 singles, Greensburg’s Emma Kuntz knocked off Bella Starr 6-4, 6-3. At No. 3 singles, Greensburg’s Adelynn Stier defeated Amielyn Mays 6-2, 6-0.

Greensburg’s No. 1 doubles team of Mya Comer and Averi Stier won a close match against Cam Butts and Trinitee Steele 6-4, 7-5. At No. 2 doubles, Greensburg’s Sophie Buening and Kiera Kennelly lost to Maddie Harrison and Ella Miller 6-2, 7-6 (7-5).

In junior varsity matches, Greensburg’s Allie Schroeder lost 6-0 and 6-3. Veda Fox and Maya Kennelly won 8-6 and 6-0, 6-0. Greensburg’s Chloe Wentzel and Rachel Lipps lost 8-6 and won 7-5.

Batesville 5, Rushville 0

On the road at EIAC foe Batesville, the Lady Lions were defeated 5-0 in the varsity tennis match. Batesville won the junior varsity match 5-2.

At No. 1 singles, Batesville’s Ava Walsman defeated Rushville’s Izzy Simmermon 6-2, 6-2. Batesville’s Aurora Mertz won the No. 2 singles match against Rushville’s Annie Buzzard 6-3, 6-3. At No. 3 singles, Batesville’s Adalynn Fledderman knocked off Rushville’s Grace Doll 6-1, 6-0.

Batesville’s No. 1 doubles team of Grace Walter and Grace Gutzwiller defeated Rushville’s Cora Morgan and Kelsey Morgan 6-2, 6-3. At No. 2 doubles, Batesville’s Maddie Haskamp and Livia Maddock won 6-1, 6-1 against Rushville’s Karagan Cox and Elize Cain.

Picking up wins in junior varsity action for Batesville were Karsyn Watson in singles; and the doubles teams of Addie Reding and Ellie Westerfeld, Ella Carpenter and Brynlie Oesterling, Lyla Struewing and Miki Gutzwiller, and Lilliana Adams and Sophie West.

Winning for Rushville in junior varsity action were the doubles pair of Sheyann Lakia and Helene 6-3 and the team of Ila Frank and Kyra Froman winning 6-1.

Eastern Hancock 5, Rushville 0

Rushville traveled to Eastern Hancock and fell to the Lady Royals 5-0 in varsity action. The junior varsity picked up a 3-2 win.

At No. 1 singles, Rushville’s Izzy Simmermon lost 6-0, 6-0 to Lexie Fletcher. At No. 2 singles, Rushville Annie Buzzard fell 6-1, 6-0 to Roxi Maxwell. Rushville’s Grace Doll was defeated 6-1, 6-1 by Ryleigh Philhower at No. 3 singles.

At No. 1 doubles, Rushville’s Cora Morgan and Kelsey Morgan lost to Sophie Hardin and Bristol Maxwell 6-1, 6-3. Rushville’s No. 2 doubles team of Karigan Cox and Elise Cain fell to Megan Fox and Caroline Clark 6-2, 6-1.

In junior varsity action, Josie Corn won the No. 3 singles match 6-1. Rushville’s No. 1 doubles team of Brylee Shaver and Lux Gordon won 8-1. The doubles team of Fyra Froman and Helene Finck won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Kensleigh Jackson was defeated 8-4 at No. 1 singles and Sheyann Lakia lost 8-3 at No. 2 singles.
