Rafael Jodar has emerged as one of the standout players during the clay court season, winning his first ATP title in Morocco and making it to the Barcelona Open quarter-finals.

Alcaraz had spoken highly of Jodar’s rise before he pulled out of the Barcelona Open.

The Spaniard described Jodar’s 2026 campaign as impressive ahead of his own quarter-final clash against Cameron Norrie.

Following Alcaraz’s comments, the young prospect has taken a moment to acknowledge and respond to the praise from world number two.

Jodar took down Jaume Munar and Camilo Ugo Carabelli without losing a set at the Barcelona Open.

There was a chance for him to face off against Alcaraz in the final, but that opportunity disappeared with the Spaniard’s withdrawal.

Speaking to reporters, Jodar had this to say: “I watched many of Carlos’ games when I was younger and as I grew up. He’s a wonderful guy and an excellent person.

“We get along very well, we have a great relationship, and I appreciate his words. I hope his injury isn’t serious and he recovers soon.”

Jodar is currently enjoying the best stretch of his career on European clay, having climbed to a new high of world number 47.
