Both of the Ohio State tennis teams are attempting to make a run towards a Big Ten Tournament championship, and so far, so good. The No. 1-seeded women were in action on Friday morning and took care of business by beating No. 8 seed Illinois 4-0 to advance to the semifinals.

OSU got the all-important doubles point to go up 1-0 and to get things started off right with victories from Teah Chavez and Hephzibah Oluwadare, and Sophia Cisse-Ignatiev and Audrey Spencer.

Things continued to roll in the singles matches. No. 4-ranked Luciana Perry clinched the first singles point on court one with a 6-3, 6-1 win. That was followed by a win by  Hephzibah Oluwadare 6-3, 6-4 on court six to give Ohio State a 3-0 lead. Shortly after that, things were put on ice with a 6-4, 6-2 victory on court two by No. 5 Teah Chavez.

The Buckeyes will now play No. 4 seed UCLA, which got by No. 5 seed Washington by a score of 4-1. The contest is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at the Auer Tennis Complex on the campus of Ohio State in Columbus.

The Buckeyes started things off in the right way by winning the all-important doubles point with victories from Teah Chavez and Hephzibah Oluwadare, and Sophia Cisse-Ignatiev and Audrey Spencer to go up 1-0.

We’ll continue to follow along as the women try to advance to the finals on Saturday afternoon.
