Jannik Sinner has booked his place in the Monte-Carlo Masters quarter-finals after a hard-fought win over Tomas Machac.

Sinner’s run of consecutive sets won at ATP Masters 1000 events came to an end when the Czech claimed the second set in a tiebreak, but the Italian responded well.

He bounced back to take the final set, securing his spot in the last eight, where he will meet Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Sinner also hit another milestone, becoming just the fourth player to reach this stage of each of the first three ATP 1000 events of a season before turning 23. The others on that list are Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Carlos Alcaraz.

Sinner joins elite company after reaching Monte-Carlo Masters quarter-finals

Sinner has yet to lose a match at an ATP Masters 1000 event in 2026, having already claimed titles at both Indian Wells and Miami.

His campaign in Monte-Carlo started with a straightforward win over Ugo Humbert, followed by a hard-fought three-set victory against Machac.

That result extended his Masters record for the season to 14-0, a mark previously reached only by Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Pete Sampras, according to Opta Ace.

Sinner is now also the fifth player to string together 19 consecutive wins at this level since the format began, joining Federer, Djokovic, Sampras and Rafael Nadal.

Sinner building streak against Auger-Aliassime ahead of Monte-Carlo clash

Sinner heads into the quarter-final with a strong record against Auger-Aliassime, having won each of their last four meetings.

Before 2025, the Canadians held a slight edge in their rivalry, with victories at both the Madrid Open and Cincinnati Open in 2022. But that dynamic shifted last season.

Sinner took all four of their matchups in 2025, starting with wins in Cincinnati and at the US Open before adding victories at the Paris Masters final and during round-robin play at the ATP Finals.

The two will now face off for the seventh time, with a place in the Monte-Carlo Masters semi-finals on the line.
