Apr. 8—BENSON — The Benson boys tennis team won a closely contested West Central Conference match with Montevideo on Tuesday.
The Braves beat the Thunder Hawks, 4-3.
Benson’s points’ came at Nos. 2, 3 and 4 singles and No. 3 doubles. Isaac Carlson, Harold Habben and Andrea Bequaraj all recorded singles victories for the Braves. Brooks Groinus and Cian Klucas won at No. 3 doubles.
Gabriel Lindeman earned Montevideo’s singles victory at No. 1, beating Alex Carlson 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. The No. 1 doubles team of Brady Baker and Chris Negen defeated Benson’s Brandon Sondag and Bence Banoczky 6-2, 7-6 (8). The Thunder Hawks’ No. 2 doubles tandem of Brayden Johnson and Fernando Chaves beat Carson Petrak and Joey Wilcox 6-3, 6-1.
Benson plays a West Central match against Minnewaska at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood. Montevideo hosts Lac qui Parle Valley for a non-conference match at 3 p.m. Thursday.
Litchfield earned victories at Nos. 1 and 3 singles and Nos. 1 and 2 doubles for the Wright County Conference victory at Hutchinson.
Lincoln Dille and Josh Blomberg won in singles for the Dragons. Max Grabow and Matt Defries triumphed at No. 1 doubles and Isaac Elwell and Grayson Swenson prevailed at No. 2 doubles for Litchfield.
Litchfield hosts Sartell for a non-conference match at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
Minnewaska swept all seven matches in straight sets to beat Yellow Medicine East at Granite Falls
The closest match came at No. 4 singles. The Lakers’ Riley Thorfinnson beat the Sting’s Talmage Hadfield 6-4, 6-1.
Minnewaska hosts Benson for a West Central match at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood. YME plays a non-conference match against New London-Spicer at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at New London.
