Jakub Mensik’s year seemed to be taking off after his impressive victory over Jannik Sinner at the Qatar Open.

It was a big moment for Mensik, but he struggled to carry that momentum into the ATP Tour events at the Sunshine Double.

He managed just two wins across both tournaments, bowing out in the round of 32 in both Indian Wells and Miami.

Mensik had already pulled out of the Monte-Carlo Masters, and now there’s been another notable absence added to his schedule.

The 18-year-old also missed his country’s Davis Cup qualifier against Israel. He confirmed via social media that he withdrew due to injury.

Czech fans are hoping Mensik can return from injury soon. At just 18 years old, he has a bright future ahead and plenty of time to make an impact on tour if he stays healthy.

Jakub Mensik Confirms Another Withdrawal Due to Injury

Mensik has announced that his break from singles play will continue, extending into the next event on the clay calendar.

The 20-year-old won’t be taking part in the Munich Open, which runs from April 11th to 19th. He shared the news on X: “Sadly, I had to withdraw from Monte Carlo earlier this week because of an infection in my right foot.

“We’ve done everything possible to try and get me ready to compete, but there just hasn’t been enough time. Not the news I wanted to share, but I’ve also decided to withdraw from Munich.

“Together with my team, we agreed that the smartest decision is to take a bit more time to recover and make sure I’m 100% for what’s coming next. Thanks for all the messages and support.”

Having lost in the opening round of last year’s event in Munich, Mensik’s ranking points won’t take much of a hit from this withdrawal.

When could Jakub Mensik return to the tour?

Mensik has only pulled out of the Munich Open so far, which should be encouraging for supporters hoping he won’t be out much longer.

The 20-year-old might make his comeback at the Madrid Open, the next major stop on the clay court calendar.

Last year in Madrid, Mensik made a strong impression by reaching the quarter-finals.

He picked up wins over Alexander Bublik, Ben Shelton, and Ethan Quinn before being knocked out by Francisco Cerundolo.

This year, he’ll be looking to defend the 200 ranking points he earned from that run.

After skipping Monte-Carlo, Mensik has dropped to world number 25 in the ATP rankings.
