Rafael Jodar has been in great form on clay this season, winning 11 of the 12 matches heâs played.
With Carlos Alcaraz missing from the tournament in Madrid, Jodar has stepped up as the main hope for Spanish tennis fans.
The 19-year-old has already beaten Alex de Minaur and Joao Fonseca, earning his spot in the fourth round of the Madrid Open.
Andy Roddick has taken notice of Jodarâs recent run but offered a bit of caution ahead of his trip to Paris next month. The former world number one said:

âYou donât get anointed, you have to earn your place.â
Roddick isnât getting ahead of himself, even if he does think highly of the world number 42.

Andy Roddick impressed by Rafael Jodarâs win over Alex de Minaur
Jodarâs victory over De Minaur was an impressive feat. Not many players can come close to the Australianâs work rate and consistency on the court, but Jodar managed to do just that in Madrid.
The young Spaniard showcased his ability early in his career, outlasting De Minaur in a three-set battle that ended 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. The win highlighted his stamina and skill against one of the most relentless players on tour.
