For Novak Djokovic, age is just a number. At 39, the Serb continues to challenge — and defeat — the world’s top players, many of whom are significantly younger than him. Even 23 years after turning professional, he has maintained remarkable consistency at the Grand Slams, reaching one final and one semifinal this year.
Without hesitation, he admits that he could not have enjoyed such remarkable longevity without the unwavering support of his better half.
Novak Djokovic Hails His Wife Jelena in a Candid Admission
Djokovic, who has spent a record-breaking 428 weeks as the World No. 1, is still among the top 10 in the world, presently ranked No. 7. Meanwhile, he is at No. 6 in the Live Race to the Finals despite having contested just five tournaments so far in 2026.
His age-defying journey is soon to be chronicled in the Prime Video documentary, “Novak Djokovic: The Wolf in Winter.” Ahead of its August 20 release, the Serb appeared on CBS Mornings, where he credited his wife, Jelena, for the support that has made his sustained success possible.
“My wife has been a rock. She has been so supportive. It would be very difficult for me to still be able to do what I do without her support and her keeping the whole household and also emotionally dealing with our children.”
Djokovic also reflected on the sacrifices he and Jelena have had to make throughout his career, particularly those involving their two children, Stefan and Tara.
“After I leave them, the absence, missing out on some important dates and events in their life… it’s hard. And she continues to support me to live my dream.”
Djokovic’s reduced schedule in recent years has largely been driven by his desire to strike a better work-life balance and spend more time with his family as his children grow older.
“But I also want to balance it out now; that’s why I don’t play as much as I used to because I want to be the best husband, father, brother, son that I can possibly be,” he said.
The Serb enjoyed the support of his family during the Wimbledon Championships, and his children were able to experience his remarkable run to the semifinals firsthand. He would hope to continue the run of form during the North American hardcourt swing, potentially with his family by his side.
