Serena Williams’ comeback begins today. The 13-time Wimbledon champion returns to the All England Club four years after retiring from tennis, competing in both the singles and doubles events.
Her singles journey starts with a match against Australian Maya Joint this morning. Williams, 44, will be competing against someone 24 years younger than her in Joint, so if the match goes long, the conditioning battle will be something to watch.
Williams will begin doubles play with her sister, Venus Williams, on Thursday. The legendary sisters are slated to play Camila Osorio and Solana Sierr to open their Wimbledon run.
The last time Williams played professionally was the 2022 US Open, when she fell to Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round. We’re only a few hours away from seeing whether she can still play to that level.
