The red clay court of Roland-Garros is a tough place to win a match, but for the sport’s biggest stars, this high-profile Grand Slam doubles as a global fashion runway as well. While Naomi Osaka likes to enter in her avant-garde attire, world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka prefers custom-made luxury ornaments and designer Gucci bags. At this year’s French Open, Sabalenka will wear a meticulously crafted diamond necklace.
Here is a closer look at the details of the luxury piece.
All About Aryna Sabalenka’s 23-Carat Diamond Necklace That Elevates Her 1R Match at the French Open
The stunning necklace was designed by ‘Material Good,’ a New York-based luxury jewelry and watch boutique. Sabalenka is a well-known ambassador for the brand and has previously worn their exclusive jewelry at the Australian Open and the US Open.
For the French Open, Material Good worked directly with Sabalenka to create a custom suite that captures both her on-court persona and the tournament’s unique aesthetic. The piece relies on the brand’s signature Multi-Shape design, ensuring it stands out under the stadium lights.
But this jewelry is more than just a fashion statement. The suite features:
- 200 Carats of deep crimson garnets specifically chosen to pay homage to the iconic red clay courts of Roland Garros.
- 23 Carats of diamonds
- Three bold necklaces as layers
Besides the necklace, Sabanleka is set to wear a striking two-toned red-and-black Nike dress that blurs the line between sportswear and couture. The Belarusian had posted a reel teasing the exclusive, custom piece tailored solely for her.
It’s well known that Sabalenka has an unapologetic love for luxury materials. For her matches, she has worn “evil eye” necklaces for luck, paired with diamond tennis bracelets and her 12-carat engagement ring from fiancé Georgios Frangulis.
In March 2026, after Sabalenka got engaged to Frangulis (a Brazilian entrepreneur and founder of Oakberry), she wore the oval-cut diamond ring, custom-designed by ISA Grutman Jewelry, which features delicate pavé diamonds on the band and hidden emerald accents, which are Sabalenka’s favorite gemstone. Jewelry experts estimate the ring is valued anywhere between $500,000 and $800,000.
During this year’s Italian Open, she complained about the glare from the LED boards on the court. One of the commentators joked that her flashy diamond necklace would “blind her opponents” across the net.
However, many tennis icons had worn high jewelry on the baseline long before her, especially at Grand Slams.
Among them, the most famous jewelry moment belongs to Chris Evert. During the 1978 US Open, Evert’s flexible diamond line bracelet broke and fell onto the court. The officials paused the match until she could find it. And the style was officially dubbed the “tennis bracelet.”
Never one to shy away from making a fashion statement, Serena Williams also stepped onto the court at the 2002 US Open wearing a $29,000 diamond tennis bracelet designed by Harry Winston.
British star Emma Raducanu took to the courts at the 2022 Wimbledon wearing roughly $30,000 worth of Tiffany & Co. jewelry, including a white gold diamond tennis bracelet, a diamond necklace, and pearl drop earrings.

And it’s not just the women, too. Rafael Nadal famously plays his grueling matches wearing custom, ultra-lightweight Richard Mille watches. Some of the tourbillons he has worn on the court retail for upwards of $1 million.
Sabalenka will step onto the Court Philippe-Chatrier today, kicking off her 2026 Roland Garros campaign with a first-round matchup against Spain’s Jessica Bouzas Maneiro.
