Jannik Sinnerâs decision to hire Magnus Norman as his new coach for the 2027 season has been widely praised.
After all, it has been seen as quite the coup for the former world number one to add a steady and hugely successful pair of hands to his team just as Darren Cahill seemed set to depart.
The Australianâs future remained uncertain for some time, even after Norman was confirmed to be joining the team.
However, at long last, both player and coach have emerged to say goodbye.
This partnership, which started in 2022, has been one of the most successful in modern tennis.
Itâs therefore no surprise that their mutual split has been met with great respect for one another, with their recent statements only reinforcing that narrative.
Jannik Sinner and Darren Cahill release statements as their partnership ends
These comments came via a press release published by Jannik Sinner himself.
In it, both he and Cahill close the book on their legendary adventure together, whilst also providing a tidbit of information regarding exactly when Norman will begin his coaching duties.
Sinnerâs comments were the first to appear, as he claimed: âDarren has been an incredibly important part of my journey. Together with Simone and the whole team, we have achieved things I dreamed of growing up.
âWinning five Grand Slam titles and reaching world No. 1 together are achievements I will always treasure, but what means just as much is the relationship we have built along the way.â
He added: âI want to thank Darren for his belief in me, his honesty and his dedication. He has helped me grow both as a player and as a person, and his guidance will stay with me throughout my career.â
Cahill, unsurprisingly, returned the favour, stating that it had âbeen a special honour and privilegeâ to coach the 24-year-old.
He continued: âHeâs an amazing young man and a humble, dedicated champion that we are all incredibly proud of. Trust, honesty and belief only work when itâs exchanged both ways, and this has been Jannikâs strength as an athlete. Itâs also the reason that makes coaching someone like him such a memorable experience.
âI want to thank Jannik, the entire team, and all the fans for welcoming this Aussie into the wonderful Italian family. I wish the team nothing but continued success for the coming years.â
And yet, perhaps the most intriguing line came at the end, which simply claimed that Norman will join the team at the beginning of next month to work alongside Simone Vagnozzi.
What did Jannik Sinner win with Darren Cahill as his coach?
Sinner alluded to the peak of his triumphs with Cahill, but the true scope of their shared success goes far beyond those elite few accolades.
After all, the progress made under his tutelage has been extraordinary.
When they first joined forces, the now five-time major champion had just five ATP Tour-level titles to his name. Cahill now leaves with Sinner boasting 30.

The highlights of these 25 triumphs are, of course, two Australian Open titles, one US Open and two more Wimbledon titles, whilst also coaching him to complete the Career Masters.
In total, he claimed 5 Grand Slams, 2 ATP Finals, 10 Masters 1000s, 6 ATP 500s and 2 ATP 250s with Cahill. He also won the Davis Cup with Italy in 2023 and 2024
