The new ATP top 10 rankings as Alexander Zverev claims top spot and Rafael Jodar makes his debut

Despite events in Basel and Vienna being just ATP 500 level, the ATP top ten has still been massively shaken up by the various outcomes.

After all, not only do we now have a new world number one, but there has also been plenty of shifting around the bottom, with one young superstar officially making their debut.

As the season draws to a close, opportunities to cement your spot within this illustrious group are narrowing.

Now, aside from the ATP Finals, only the Paris Masters remains.

For many, this represents a huge chance to secure qualification for that prestigious end-of-year event.

However, others will just be keen to remain inside the top ten, given how fiercely competitive spots have been throughout the year.

Alexander Zverev officially becomes the new world number one

It’s worth starting with the biggest rankings story of the bunch, as Alexander Zverev finally claims his top spot.

The German has been in and around the apex of the sport for the best part of a decade now, but his inability to convert this constant pressure into tangible Grand Slam success held him back from truly staking a claim to be the best in the world.

Well, having now won two majors in one season, coinciding with long-term injuries to Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, Zverev has got his reward.

He has deposed the Italian, who has not played since the Wimbledon final in July.

Below them, from third to sixth, there has been no movement. Carlos Alcaraz remains just behind them, followed by Ben Shelton, Daniil Medvedev and Flavio Cobolli.

However, it is these final three spots which are particularly interesting.

RANKING PLAYER POINTS
1 Alexander Zverev 9,520
2 Jannik Sinner 9,450
3 Carlos Alcaraz 6,110
4 Ben Shelton 4,490
5 Daniil Medvedev 3,820
6 Flavio Cobolli 3,680
7 Arthur Fils 3,535
8 Frances Tiafoe 3,390
9 Alex de Minaur 3,370
10 Rafael JĂłdar 3,194
ATP live rankings ahead of the Paris Masters

Arthur Fils has jumped up one spot into a career-high of seventh, whilst Frances Tiafoe is just behind him in eighth.

Alex de Minaur’s run to the final in Vienna has helped him jump up to ninth, with Rafael Jodar, despite his underperformance in Basel, securing his top-ten debut.

Jodar has actually made history with the speed at which he has ascended the rankings. It will be interesting to see if he can now secure his ATP Finals qualification, although Novak Djokovic, who is 12th in the live rankings, will have grand aspirations of crashing the party.
