The best and worst moments of the 2026 French Open

The 2026 French Open, tennis‘s second Grand Slam of the year, is in the books.

Of course, we enjoyed crowning maiden champions and watching Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova make history.

It was an incredible tournament with so much chaos at Roland Garros that it is difficult to list the best and worst moments, but here is what made our list.

Best French Open moments

1. “Poland Garros”

Maja Chwalinska was the Cinderella story of the tournament. The Polish qualifier rode her success to the final where she was outmatched by a more rested Mirra Andreeva.

She won hearts and showed us what type of person she is at the TNT Sports desk. Her interactions with Andre Agassi and John McEnroe made us smile. She knows her “vintage” tennis and admires the players who made it great.

McEnroe may have smoothed the way for her to get a Wimbledon wildcard telling Tim Henman (who is on Wimbledon wildcard committee) on-air that she should get one, and Henman agreed.

2. Venus Williams and Sloane Stephens for TNT Sports

TNT Sports touted its lineup of former players to be the media professionals this year at Roland Garros. Venus Williams and Sloane Stephens were the shining stars. With their mix of knowledge and empathy (and superior fashion sense), both are beloved on court and in front of the camera.

3. Naomi Osaka’s kit

While some find it controversial or unnecessary, Naomi Osaka is bring art to tennis in a unique way with her custom designed kits. We love that she changes the look from round to round. Women’s tennis has extra sparkle because of her looks.

Worst Roland Garros moments

1. Heat wave

No one can control Mother Nature, but the record heat wave wreaked havoc with the draw in the first week. We had big upsets and barely saw players we enjoy watching into the second week of Grand Slams such as Jessica Pegula and Jannik Sinner.

2. Retirements

Our hearts broke for the players who could not continue for various reasons especially Matteo Berrettini in his best Grand Slam showing in years. Matteo Arnaldi also made us sad because his well-earned semifinal opportunity was taken away by a virus. Hailey Baptiste‘s devastating injury also dampened our spirits.

3. Andre Agassi

We loved Agassi with Chwalinska, as mentioned above. However, we did not like his harsh takes on Sinner and Arnaldi. He was judgmental and unkind, qualities we do not normally associate with him. It is unclear if TNT Sports commissioned him to be controversial.
