One of tennisâ rising stars, Alex Eala, recently named Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark as her WNBA comparison.
Speaking to Overtime Tennis, Eala was asked to name a player from the NBA or WNBA she can compare herself to. She acknowledged not knowing a lot about both leagues, but she knows Clark and picked her.
âLet me preface by saying I donât think I know enough about the NBA or WNBA, but I would be remiss not to choose Caitlin Clark,â Eala said. âSheâs amazing. I think sheâs insane. So, hey, Caitlin, Iâm Alex. Nice to meet you.â
It was a pretty good choice from Eala, who hails from the Philippines, one of the most basketball-crazy nations in the world. She seems focused on her craft, though itâs not surprising that she knows Clark.
The Fever superstar is arguably the most popular WNBA star in the world today. She is one of the primary reasons why womenâs basketball has risen in popularity.
The same can be said for Eala, who has taken over the tennis world this year. She has brought in new fans to the sport, with many Filipinos packing stadiums to watch her play.

The 21-year-old tennis star is scheduled to team up with menâs World No. 4 Felix Auger-Aliassime on August 25 in the mixed doubles tournament. They earned a wild card spot and will play on the main draw.
After the mixed doubles event, Eala will face womenâs World No. 16 Iva Jovic. The two very good friends will headline the Stars of the Open exhibition match on August 27.
In the womenâs singles tournament, Eala is expected to have a Top-20 seed in the main draw. Itâs the first time she got a direct entry to the US Open. She went through the qualifiers last year and reached the qualifiers.
