Tennis: Pirates net EIAC win at Rushville

Greensburg evened its season record at 1-1 with a 4-1 EIAC win at Rushville.

“Rushville is a solid, very young team and we were fortunate enough to pick up our first EIAC victory of the season,” Coach June Rigney noted.

At No. 1 singles, Greensburg’s Mason McNulty was solid in knocking off Rushville’s Kaceik Lunsford 6-1, 6-0. At No. 2 singles, Greensburg’s Will Weber won a hard-fought match 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 against Rushville’s Brady Martz. Greensburg’s Brody Sanders followed suit winning 6-3, 6-3 against Rushville’s Jacob Sloan at No. 3 singles.

In doubles action, Rushville’s No. 1 doubles team of Joel Downey and Owen Piles defeated Greensburg’s Logan Fisse and Luke Schwering were defeated 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). At No. 2 doubles, Greensburg’s Max Buening and Jaxson Phillips posed a 6-0, 6-4 victory against Rushville’s Max Reynolds and Luke Jackman.

In JV matches, Rushville’s Cory Swendenman defeated Greensburg’s Jonah Wheat 8-1. Rushville’s Trent Smith and Logan Gordon won 8-3 in doubles against Greensburg’s Simeon Wheat with Rylan Kraushar.

Greensburg 5, Trinity Lutheran 0

Greensburg improved to 2-1 on the season with a 5-0 sweep of visiting Trinity Lutheran.

McNulty won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. At No. 2 singles, Will Weber posted a 6-1, 6-3 win. Brody Sanders dominated his second set at No. 3 singles, winning 6-4, 6-0.

Greensburg’s No. 1 doubles team of Logan Fisse and Luke Schwering cruised to a 6-0 win in the opening set and then won the second in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-5). At No. 2 doubles, Max Buening and Jaxson Phillips did not give up a game in winning 6-0, 6-0.

In junior varsity action, Simeon Wheat and Rylan Kraushar were both victorious in their matches.

Connersville 5, Batesville 0

The Batesville tennis team traveled to Connersville Thursday to open up EIAC play on the road. The Spartans claimed the 5-0 victory.

At No. 1 singles, Batesville’s Jevan Smith lost a tight match to Anthony Struewing 7-5, 6-4. At No. 2 singles, Batesville’s Carson Meyer was defeated by Jay McMillen in three sets 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. Batesville’s Max Walter fell to Abel Parsley 6-1, 6-0.

At No. 1 doubles, Batesville’s Will Patterson and Wes Peters lost to Evan Miller and Grady Simpkins 6-3, 6-1. Batesville’s No. 2 doubles team of Eli Doll and Coleman West fell to Eli Laughlin and Angelo Amora 6-3, 6-1.

In junior varsity action, Tyler Musick lost 8-6. Matthew Jensen lost 8-4. Drew Nobbe and Parker Smith fell 8-6.
