Stefanos Tsitsipas ended his title drought on the ATP Tour by defeating Raphaël Collignon in the final of the Swiss Open in Gstaad.
As the Greek player celebrated his title with his girlfriend, Kristen Thoms, he referenced a popular Taylor Swift song.
Stefanos Tsitsipas Makes Taylor Swift Reference After Swiss Open Triumph
Tsitsipas overcame Collignon in a hard-fought Swiss Open final, ending his 17-month title drought. The 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-3 win helped the 27-year-old clinch his 13th title on the ATP Tour.
After the match, Tsitsipas made a reference to one of Swiftâs songs on X as he posted a picture of himself and his girlfriend celebrating his win.
âHey Siri, play âLavender Haze,ââ Tsitsipas captioned his post on X.
The song is about the euphoric feeling of being very much in love and wanting to ignore societal scrutiny and expectations about relationships.
Tsitsipas is in a relationship with Kristen Thoms, a former American collegiate tennis player. The two made their relationship public earlier this year, and Tsitsipas has often credited Thoms as a strong support system.
Thoms, who played college tennis for the University of Iowa and Florida Atlantic University, has been seen cheering for Tsitsipas at tournaments around the globe this year. She now works as a social media content creator.
Meanwhile, the Swiss Open triumph is set to give Tsitsipas a big boost in his ranking. The two-time Grand Slam finalist is set to move up 30 places to World No. 55 when the ATP rankings are updated on Monday.
Tsitsipas arrived in Gstaad as an unseeded player but rolled back the years and found his mojo on the red dirt. He started his run by defeating Ignacio Buse in straight sets before overcoming JérÎme Kym, Arthur Rinderknech, and Aleksandr Shevchenko in tight matches to qualify for the final. He was given a tough test by Collignon in the title match but came through to win the sixth clay-court title of his career.
The win in Gstaad will come as a huge relief for Tsitsipas, who has endured a disappointing year on the ATP Tour. Prior to his run at the ATP 250 tournament, the former World No. 3 had slipped to 85th in the ATP rankings.
Tsitsipas will now turn his attention to the North American swing. He is next scheduled to play at the Mubadala DC Open, where he will look to build on his momentum and continue his strong run of form.
