Serena Williams’ coach, Rennae Stubbs, had a humorous response after being asked about Jessica Pegula’s husband, Taylor Gahagen, who has largely stayed out of the public spotlight despite his wife’s success on the WTA Tour.
Pegula recently shared a glimpse of attending Tommy Paul and Paige Lorenze’s wedding with Gahagen. The wedding took place on July 14 at the Old Westbury Gardens on Long Island, New York, where the tennis player donned an elegant sage green dress and posted a selfie with her husband on social media.
Because Gahagen works as a corporate executive, he rarely appears at tour events, making their joint appearance a special highlight among fans. This picture quickly garnered attention online, and one of the fans on X wrote:
“Has ANYONE heard that man speak.”
Dropping a priceless reaction to the fan’s question, Stubbs replied:
“Yep and he’s awesome.”
The star-studded guest list of the wedding featured several other tennis players, including Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, Reilly Opelka, John Isner, Steve Johnson, and Madison Keys.
Pegula and Gahagen began dating around 2015 and first made their relationship public when the tennis pro shared a picture of them at a costume party. After dating for almost four years, they got engaged in 2019 and got married in October 2021 at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina.

During the July 17 game between the Atlanta Dream and Toronto Tempo, Tempo head coach Sandy Brondello referred to Angel Reese as a ‘protected species.’ This took place while the coach was arguing with officials after a collision that left Toronto’s Nyara Sabally injured. This comment led to a one-game WNBA suspension for Brondello.
She publicly apologized to Reese, taking accountability for her comment, accepting that its impact went beyond what she intended. Shortly after this, Serena Williams’ coach, Rennae Stubbs, came to Brondello’s defense on Threads, writing:
“A former colleague and coach who is a black women said the exact same thing. Are you going to attack her too? Or are you going to maybe listen to the people who personally know Sandy and know the person she is. And as an Australian i can tell u, that comment is not about color of someone’s skin but of bad refereeing in sports, from one’s eyes. Sandy is literally the kindest person you could ever meet and “not a racist!” That quote from her former colleague,” wrote Serena Williams’ coach.
Serena Williams and Rennae Stubbs reunited in March for the preparation of the American’s comeback to tennis after a break of almost four years.
