Stubbs doesn’t see Mirra Andreeva as one of the top three favourites for this year’s Wimbledon title.

The young Russian has certainly been in good form, capturing her first Grand Slam title earlier this month at Roland Garros.

That win has brought a lot of new attention her way, and she’s now looking to carry that momentum into Wimbledon. But despite being arguably the most in-form player on tour, Stubbs isn’t putting her among the main favourites.

During a recent episode of ‘The Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast’, the six-time Grand Slam doubles champion was asked if she saw Andreeva as one of her top three picks for the title.

Rennae Stubbs ranks her top three ahead of Mirra Andreeva for the Wimbledon title

Stubbs placed Andreeva in her top five but gave the nod to Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, and Jessica Pegula ahead of her.

“Well, I think she’s top five. I don’t know if she’s top three,” Stubbs said about Andreeva. “I think I would put even Pegula ahead of her, just on grass.”

“But, you know, the thing with Mirra is that she’s very tricky, and she knows how to manoeuvre her racket face on any surface. And by that, I mean, she’s able to adapt on the court surface that she’s playing on.

“She has a great serve, first and second serve. She can hit the spots and on grass, you have to serve well because if you don’t you’re gonna get crushed. People will take advantage of a s—– second serve, especially the Sabalenkas’ ,the Rybakinas’, even the Pegulas’, people that hit the ball big.”

“So there’s no way I’m going to discount her on any surface and depending on who’s still at the pointy end of a tournament,” Stubbs added. “Mirra Andreeva now is a Grand Slam champion and knows that she can do it.”

Mirra Andreeva’s history at Wimbledon

Still only 19, Andreeva is already set for her fourth appearance in the main draw at Wimbledon.

She holds a 73% win-loss record at the tournament and reached the quarter-finals for the first time just last year.

The teenager hasn’t played any grass court matches this season yet, but she is expected to compete at the Bad Homburg Open next week as part of her build-up.

She will enter Wimbledon as the fifth seed, which lines up with Stubbs’ view that she’s among the top five contenders for the title. The main draw is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 29th.
