Rain delays highly anticipated Mubadala DC Open singles finals featuring Pegula, Eala, Fritz, Jodar

Tennis at the 2026 Mubadala DC Open on August 2 features women’s and men’s singles finals with Jessica Pegula, Alexandra Eala, Taylor Fritz, and Rafael Jodar.

Those finals were slated to begin at 12 PM EDT; however, they are postponed due to rain.

Jessica Pegula is a two-time DC Open champion facing Alexandra Eala

Pegula is the perennial favorite to win the women’s singles crown, but no one would be surprised if Filipina sensation Alexandra Eala defeated her.

Eala has worked through an impressive draw this week including last year’s champion Leylah Fernandez, 2024 Paris Olympic champion Qinwen Zheng, and four-time Grand Slam champion and former WTA World No. 1 Naomi Osaka.

The question will be who has the most fans. Pegula would be the logical choice; however, the Filipino fans travel en masse to support Eala who is single handedly putting the Philippines on the tennis map.

Will nerves be an issue? Eala’s two previous titles were WTA 125 challengers; winning a WTA 500 would unlock a new career milestone for the 21-year-old.

Taylor Fritz is seeking his first ATP title of 2026 against Rafael Jodar

Fritz has played an outstanding tournament, taking out his fellow Americans Alex Michelsen and Brandon Nakashima in prior rounds.

He faces Rafael Jodar, the 19-year-old Spaniard that he has beaten previously, but Jodar’s game has improved since they last met earlier this year.

Fritz should have the crowd support, but Jodar has confidence. He won a maiden ATP 250 title on the clay in Morocco in March.
