Rafael Jodar receiving backlash for allegedly pushing ballgirl at French Open

Spain’s Rafael Jodar is having a breakout spring and is into the fourth round of the 2026 French Open.

Jodar is receiving a lot of criticism, originating with local media and extending to social media, for allegedly pushing a ball girl out of his way during his five set win over Alex Michelsen.

Jodar explained that he did not push the ball girl, saying that she tried to get out of the way because he was headed toward his father during a break between sets. He said she lost her balance doing so, near the tarp.

Camera angles are deceiving

The camera angles do not provide a clear cut view of the incident. However, and most importantly, people who were at the match and saw the incident in person, contend that he did not push her or even touch her.

They explain that he was not as close to her as the cameras showed.

Had this really happened and line officials or the chair umpire saw it, it would have been addressed at the time it occurred.

Fans are rash judging Jodar

Jodar is young and inexperienced on the international tennis scene, but there is no reason to believe that he is lying especially when spectators corroborate what he said.

This year’s French Open is experiencing an intense heat wave, and everyone is on edge on court and off. We should let Jodar concentrate on tennis because this story is a nothingburger that has been blown way out of proportion.
