In case you missed it, tennis players are disappointed in their revenue share from the French Open. Seeking 22%, they are receiving 15%. This is part of a widespread problem players are experiencing with all of the Grand Slam tournaments, and the French Open is the worst offender.
WTA World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and ATP World No. 1 Jannik Sinner have both expressed their disappointment with the revenue share, stating it affects players of all rankings, especially those outside the Top 100.
Coco Gauff got to the heart of the issue saying in an individual sport without a union, the players will have to make a strong unified stance. It appears they are taking the first step in this direction on Friday at French Open Media Day.

Whatâs happening on French Open Media Day
The players are limiting their press conferences to 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, they will walk out. 15 is the magic number because of the 15% revenue share.
Jannik Sinner speaks to the media during a BNP Paribas Open press conference at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif., on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
For context, press conferences usually run from 15-30 minutes but tend to be longer at Grand Slams.

Will it make a difference
I am all for the players getting their required revenue share because the tournaments, sponsors, and everyone else gets their share, and the players are the reason for the event. However, I do not think this will be effective.
The only benefit that could come from it is that it may force reporters to ask better questions at the onset knowing that the press conferences will end at a definitive time.
I am also not sure boycotting Grand Slams will work because unless the players have a union and are in complete solidarity, there will be some who will play. They could be lower ranked and not as attention grabbing for fans and ticket sales, but it is impossible to believe all players worldwide would universally boycott.
The most troubling part of this story is that Sinner mentioned how the players wrote a letter last year to the tournaments, and essentially, it was ignored. Ignoring the problem is not helping. Hopefullly both sides engage in discussions to work the issue so that everyone gets what he or she deserves.
