More Relaxing Days for Jannik Sinner As World No. 1 Opts for Golf Outing While Players Assemble in Montréal

Jannik Sinner is making the most of his downtime ahead of his return to court in Cincinnati. After making the strategic decision to skip the Canadian Open (August 3-13) to rest and recharge, the Italian was spotted enjoying one of his other favorite sports: golf. Just hours ago, Sinner took to social media, sharing a short, sweet clip on X showcasing his golf swing.

This much-needed leisure time comes just days after Sinner’s decision to withdraw from the Masters 1000 event in Montreal. Playing on a year-round tennis calendar is taxing, especially for the World No. 1, who set records this year by completing the Career Golden Masters.

And golf is one of the activities the 24-year-old finds to be a source of stress relief. In March this year, ahead of Indian Wells, Sinner told Tennis Channel, “I love to golf because you have a moment for yourself. You don’t see people. You don’t use the phone. I really like to put some music and just cruise around. That, for me, is my golf. I’m not there to compete. I don’t even have a handicap.”

His coaching team has also helped him with golf. “I learned a lot with Darren [Cahill]. Darren is a very, very good player, and also Simone Vagnozzi. He’s getting into golf like crazy. He’s not here. He’s at home playing golf! He will join me again in Miami. But when we go, I just have fun. I love it,” he added.

Heading into the North American hard-court swing, including the US Open, it seems like Sinner needed time off to relax.

Now, all eyes are firmly fixed on the Cincinnati Open in Ohio, where, alongside Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic will also be making a return. The Spaniard has been sidelined since April due to a lingering inflammation in his right wrist, which forced him to withdraw from several tournaments, including the Madrid Open, the Rome Masters, the French Open, and Wimbledon.

Meanwhile, Sinner holds a 44-3 match record, has captured six singles titles, including Wimbledon, set a new men’s record with 34 consecutive ATP Masters 1000 match wins during his Rome triumph, and has retained the world No. 1 ranking for 82 weeks.

The Cincinnati Masters begins on August 11 with the qualifiers.
