Mardy Fish believes Andy Roddick should have won 8 Grand Slams

Mardy Fish, the former tennis player turned golfer and newly crowned 2026 American Century Championship winner, recently spoke to Rich Eisen about the state of tennis. Fish is a former ATP World No. 7, winner of six ATP titles, and the 2004 Athens Olympics silver medalist in men’s singles.

In addition to agreeing with the masses who believe that Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are playing at a level higher than the rest of their ATP peers, Fish had a hot take on his American comrade Andy Roddick’s career.

What Fish said

Fish said that if Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal had not been around, he believes Roddick, 43, would have won 8 Grand Slams.

He went on to detail the close matches Roddick lost, particularly to Federer.

Fish said that Roddick should have won Wimbledon.

It is funny to hear Fish talk so seriously about Roddick. On social media, he approaches everything with his dry sense of humor while saving his best jabs for Federer.

Is Fish right about Roddick’s playing career

Stan Wawrinka, 41, and Andy Murray, 39, might have something to say about Fish’s theory. Wawrinka, who is retriing at the end of this year, and Murray each managed to win three Grand Slams in the Big Three era.

Roddick won the 2003 US Open which is mentioned every year because he is the last American man to win a Grand Slam.

Roddick’s career is flourishing after retirement

The former ATP World No. 1 retired in 2012, with 32 ATP titles. He was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2017.
