Madison Keys advanced to the fourth round of Wimbledon with a three-set victory over fellow American Amanda Anisimova on Saturday.
Keys dropped the first set 3-6, but then battled back to win the second set 6-2. She maintained that momentum through the final set and won 6-3 to take the match.
Animisova came into the tournament as the No. 6 seed in the womenâs singles draw. Despite having more experience, Keys was the underdog in the match as the 26th seed in the womenâs bracket.
Animisova was the second-highest-seeded American in the womenâs singles bracket. Jessica Pegula is the No. 4 seed and has already clinched a spot in the fourth round, as she will take on fellow American Iva Jovic on Sunday.
Keys will meet Czechiaâs Linda NoskovĂĄ in the fourth round on Monday.
Animisova becomes the latest top seed to fall early in Wimbledon. Also on Saturday, reigning champion Iga ĆwiÄ tek lost to Alexandra Eala, and No. 2 Elena Rybakina lost to No. 25 Elise Mertens in straight sets.
Wimbledon has been Keysâ toughest tennis major of her career so far. Of the four, it is the only tournament she has never reached the semifinals of.
Keys currently only has one singles title to her credit, winning the 2025 Australian Open. She mentioned in her post-match interview after the win over Animisova that one of her goals is to make it to the Wimbledon semi-finals this year, and wouldnât allow herself to think past that just yet.
