The 2026 Wimbledon Championships will begin on Monday with Jannik Sinner, Serena Williams, and Aryna Sabalenka headlining the star-studded field. However, some big names will also be missing the prestigious Grand Slam. Here is the lowdown on the notable absentees who will not be competing at the All England Club this year.

2026 Wimbledon Absentees, Featuring Carlos Alcaraz, Markéta Vondroušová

Carlos Alcaraz

Alcaraz remains sidelined with the wrist injury he suffered at the Barcelona Open. After missing the French Open, the two-time Wimbledon men’s singles champion will not be competing at SW19 either.

The Spaniard is currently progressing well in his rehab, and fans will hope to see him back in time for the US Open.

Holger Rune

Rune had set up an ambitious plan to return to action before the French Open after fully rupturing his Achilles tendon last year. He missed the clay-court Grand Slam and has now also been ruled out of the 2026 grass-court Major.

The 23-year-old, who reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon in 2023, is working on his recovery and recently revealed he still needs a few more weeks before he can return.

Lorenzo Musetti

Musetti injured his thigh at the Italian Open and was forced to miss Roland-Garros as a result. The Italian hasn’t played since and will also miss the Wimbledon Championships. Musetti has a decent record at the tournament and made the semifinals in 2024, so his absence will certainly be felt at the All England Club.

Markéta Vondroušová

In women’s singles, Vondroušová will be missing the 2026 event after receiving a four-year ban for refusing to take an anti-doping test in December 2025. The Czech tennis player, who won the Wimbledon women’s singles title in 2023, cited anxiety about a doping control official arriving outside their allotted time as the reason for refusing the test.

However, an independent tribunal claimed that her explanation offered “no compelling justification” for the refusal, and she was issued a ban earlier this week.

Victoria Mboko

Mboko sustained a medial collateral ligament injury in her left knee and will also miss the Championships. The highly rated player picked up the injury at Queen’s Club and will hope to return in time for the US Open.

Hailey Baptiste

Baptiste was enjoying a breakthrough run on the WTA Tour before disaster struck at the French Open as she suffered an ACL and meniscus tear on her left knee. The American, who defeated Aryna Sabalenka earlier this year, will be sidelined for several months as a result.
