Learner Tien’s exchange with Alexander Bublik at net is the feel good clip of the day

In case you missed it, Learner Tien advanced to his first career clay court final at the Geneva Open. He defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alex Michelsen, and Alexander Bublik en route to the final.

Many consider Tien’s clay court play as a work-in-progress. The surface will be something the 20 year old Californian will get accustomed to as his coach, 1989 French Open champion Michael Chang spends more time working with him.

Virtually no one predicted Tien would be in the final. However, that is not the biggest news of the day. The postmatch exchange between Bublik and Tien is the feel good clip you must see.

Bublik is happy for Tien

Despite losing a competitive three set match, it is obvious that Bublik is happy for Tien and his career first accomplishment at the Geneva Open.

Learner Tien smiles after defeating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 during their BNP Paribas Open fourth-round match in Indian Wells, Calif., on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.

In an era where handshakes are tense and sometimes nonexistent, this is refreshing to see.

Learner Tien vs. Mariono Navone

Tien will face Navone who scored a huge upset win over Casper Ruud.

Tien and Navone are 1-1 head-to-head. Both matches happened last year on outdoor hardcourts.

Navone is currently ranked 42nd; Tien is 20th.

Tien has the ranking edge, but Navone won his maiden ATP title in early April on the clay at the 2026 Tiriac Open.
