Learner Tien and Taylor Fritz win doubles match at Geneva Open

We are even more excited to report that Learner Tien is playing doubles with TaylorFritz this week at the Geneva Open than we were when Tien played with Daniil Medvedev at Indian Wells.

Tien has been playing with multiple partners including his childhood friend Alex Michelsen last week at the Italian Open. Tien’s coach and tennis legend, Michael Chang, is likely trying to get Tien more confident on the clay. Ironically, Chang, the 1989 French Open champion, was the most accomplished on clay and wants to pass that on to Tien.

The Tien Fritz team won its first match together, and we think “Claylor” might help foster Tien’s skills.

Tien and Fritz help each other

Tien is still relatively young and inexperienced so Fritz can be a mentor. He is a veteran on the ATP Tour and has been the most accomplished American player of his generation.

Fritz is coming back from a serious knee injury that has sidelined him for months. Teaming with Tien helps Fritz get more clay court match play before next week’s French Open.

Though Fritz has never won an ATP doubles title, he won an Olympic bronze medal at thee 2024 Paris Olympics with Tommy Paul.

Tien has also never won an ATP doubles title.

Will we see “Taytien” again?

A team name must be developed. Is “Taytien” a good name?

More importantly, can this duo win a Geneva Open title?

Learner Tien smiles after defeating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 during their BNP Paribas Open fourth-round match in Indian Wells, Calif., on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.

That is an exciting prospect. Should it happen, it may mean more doubles events for the pair the rest of the season.

Tien and Fritz will play their quarterfinal match at the 2026 Geneva Open on Wednesday, May 20. Tennis Channel is the American broadcaster of the Geneva Open.
