After a dramatic day of women’s singles semifinals at the Wimbledon Championships on Thursday, an all-Czechia final is set. No. 9 seed Linda Noskova will take on No. 10 seed Karolina Muchova, as both chase their first grand slam title.

Muchova won the first of the two semifinals on Thursday in one of the most dramatic contests of the year, taking down No. 7 seed Coco Gauff 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 while saving a match point in the final set tiebreak. The 29-year old is into her second grand slam final after losing the championship match to Iga Swiatek at Roland Garros back in 2023.

Noskova had a much smoother ride through the second semifinal, as she beat No. 12 seed Marta Kostyuk 6-4, 6-4. Noskova’s serve and powerful baseline game controlled most of the match, and a pair of breaks at 5-4 in each set got her the win.

Noskova has also been on the brink of elimination in this tournament. In the third round against the in-form Sorana Cirstea, the 21-year old faced a match point at 4-5 in the final set before coming back to win in a deciding tiebreak.

This is the first time that both finalists at a grand slam have saved a match point en route to the final since 2018, when Caroline Wozniacki defeated Simona Halep in the Australian Open final, per OptaAce.

Muchova looked down and out when facing a match point against Gauff on Thursday, but the American made a critical error on a short forehand that extended the tiebreak. Muchova responded with a couple of clutch points to take the tiebreak 12-10 and advance to the final.

Muchova and Noskova, who were doubles partners for Czechia at the 2024 Paris Olympics, have only faced off one time on tour. That was at last year’s U.S. Open, where Muchova recovered after dropping the opening set to take it in three.

Both Muchova and Noskova won lead-up tournaments on the grass courts this season, so they are both in top form. The final between to of the best players of the season should be an entertaining one Saturday on Centre Court.
