Juan Carlos Ferrero confirms if he ever watches Carlos Alcaraz’s matches now after their split

Juan Carlos Ferrero was initially unable to watch Carlos Alcaraz after their dramatic coaching split last year.

Ferrero and Alcaraz announced they were parting ways in December last year after seven years of working together, which saw them win six Grand Slam titles.

This announcement stunned the tennis world, with Ferrero absent for Alcaraz winning the Australian Open, as he became the youngest man in history to complete the Career Grand Slam.

At the time, Ferrero admitted that he was unable to watch Alcaraz at the Australian Open, and he has now revealed if he can watch his former player again.

Juan Carlos Ferrero says he is now watching a lot of Carlos Alcaraz’s matches again

Ferrero spoke to Spanish outlet El Mundo, where he was asked about his coaching relationship with Alcaraz and if there was anything he would change about how it ended. Ferrero responded by admitting that it is not specifically the end he would change.

“There are things I would change throughout his career, not just in the final year,” admitted Ferrero. “But we didn’t go our separate ways because of one specific incident that could have been changed.”

Ferrero was then asked about his previous comments about being unable to watch Alcaraz, and if this is still the case, something he revealed was no longer the case after claiming he is now watching a lot of his former player’s matches after ‘feeling distressed’ following their split.

“No, I didn’t watch the [Australian Open] final,” said Ferrero. “But I’m now watching quite a lot of his matches again, and I’ve got back into the routine of watching tennis without feeling distressed. I watch everything and analyse it all. The truth is, I’m feeling pretty good again.”

Alcaraz, who is now coached by Samuel Lopez, won his first tournament without Ferrero at the Australian Open, but he has since undergone some difficult times after spending nearly five months on the sidelines due to a right wrist injury, which forced him to miss both Roland Garros and Wimbledon before he returned at the US Open.

Juan Carlos Ferrero confirms he will not be returning to coaching full time

In recent months, Ferrero has speculated about a return to coaching, with it even rumoured that he could join forces with Alcaraz’s greatest rival, Jannik Sinner. Sinner is now reported to be working with Magnus Norman, silencing any suggestions of him working with Ferrero, but the Spaniard has confirmed he will be working with an ATP player in 2027.

Despite Ferrero confirming he will coach a new player, he has stated that he will not be travelling full time like he was with Alcaraz.

“Fortunately, I’ve already finalised an agreement with a player, and it won’t be long before I can reveal who it is,” revealed Ferrero. “I’m really looking forward to coaching again next year. I’m excited about getting back into competition and following the tour. I won’t be doing it full-time, and I won’t travel to every tournament, but I will be working throughout the year.”

Ferrero has also been rumoured to coach Rafael Jodar, and he has responded when asked if his new player is Spanish.

“I can’t reveal anything,” replied Ferrero. “He’s currently playing tournaments and it’s not yet the right moment to announce his name, but it won’t be long now.”

Ferrero has revealed that he would announce his new player on 9th November.
