Jannik Sinner is steadily preparing for Wimbledon, where he’ll be looking to defend his title.
Sinner took down Carlos Alcaraz in last year’s final, earning his first win at the tournament and adding a fourth Grand Slam trophy to his impressive collection.
But the current world number one comes into this year’s event with questions hanging over his fitness, especially after struggling physically at the French Open.
Sinner hasn’t played since then, as he exited in the second round. That defeat was partly down to how much he struggled in the heat of Paris.
But since then, he has started taking concrete steps to get a better grasp on what went wrong during his time in Paris.
Jannik Sinner adopts Novak Djokovic’s strategy following French Open exit
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Jannik Sinner has started using a glucose sensor on his left arm during training sessions.
The move comes after tests at San Raffaele Hospital, with his team aiming to better understand how his blood sugar levels behave.
Should any issues arise, doctors and nutritionists are prepared to step in and adjust Sinner’s diet to help prevent the kind of energy dips he experienced in Paris.
It’s worth noting that Novak Djokovic has previously used the same approach to keep track of his own blood sugar levels.
Sinner also won’t be playing any tournaments ahead of Wimbledon, choosing a similar path to Djokovic as both prepare for the grass-court season.
Ben Shelton set to link up with Jannik Sinner for pre-Wimbledon event
While Sinner is skipping grass-court tournaments on the ATP calendar for now, he has signed up for an exhibition just ahead of Wimbledon.
The world number one will play at the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic, held later this month at The Hurlingham Club in London.
And he won’t be short of company. Ben Shelton has been added to the lineup, joining Jiri Lehecka among others already named.
The event also features Casper Ruud, Cam Norrie, Stan Wawrinka and Flavio Cobolli, fresh off his French Open final appearance. Fans can also catch tennis legends Flavia Pennetta and Michael Chang in action.
