‘It Was Not a Great Jannik Sinner’ – Patrick Mouratoglou Claims Italian Was ‘Unconfident’ at Wimbledon

Patrick Mouratoglou has weighed in on Jannik Sinner’s triumph at the 2026 Wimbledon Championships, where he managed to successfully retain his Grand Slam title despite not being at his best.

The former coach of Serena Williams believes that the 24-year-old’s Wimbledon win while playing at 60-65% of his level bodes well for his future.

Sinner got off to a slow start at Wimbledon, needing five sets to overcome Miomir Kecmanović in the first round. But as is often the case with the Italian, he found his groove as the tournament went on and delivered his best tennis in the semifinals and final to clinch a fifth Grand Slam title.

Mouratoglou analyzed Sinner’s performances at Wimbledon and claimed that he succeeded despite looking short of confidence at times.

“It was not a great Jannik Sinner, and he won a Grand Slam. I would say he was at 60-65%. I felt that he was unconfident. He had a very big disappointment at Roland Garros, but it’s not that he didn’t play well. Before that, he won a number of matches without losing one. So he should be super confident,” Mouratoglou said in his latest vlog post on Instagram.

Mouratoglou also explained why the performance at Wimbledon bodes well for the World No. 1 as he looks to continue his dominant run on the ATP Tour.

“He missed so many forehands in the final. On the returning side, he was not as good. Even though he was very average, it’s going to be very useful for him in the future to know that he can win even if Grand Slams even being at 70% in terms of quality of tennis,” he added.

Sinner relied on his serve to defeat Novak Djokovic in the semifinals and Alexander Zverev in the final. While his returns weren’t as potent as usual, he did not drop a single game on his serve in the last two matches. That proved to be key as he overcame the two biggest threats to his title defense.

With his triumph at Wimbledon, Sinner heads into the North American swing with only three defeats to his name in 2026. The Italian appears to be firing on all cylinders and will undoubtedly be the favorite to regain the US Open title after losing to Carlos Alcaraz in last year’s final.
