Injured Madison Keys retires from WTA 125 Paris Challenger final

Madison Keys was hoping to get some additional clay court preparation in after an early ouster from the Italian Open. Her clay court season has been disjointed with illness limiting her ability to play at the Mutua Madrid Open.

As a result, she was one of several well-known players (along with Leylah Fernandez, Maya Joint, Katie Boulter, and Emma Navarro) to enter the WTA 125 Paris Challenger event.

Amid rain and scheduling issues, Keys managed to get to the final against Diane Parry.

Keys retired after winning the first set

At 3-3 in the second set after winning the first 6-3, Keys, 31, retired from the match.

She is reportedly dealing with a thigh injury.

It is concerning as the French Open main draw play begins on May 24.

Keys is having an up and down year

As has been the case for most of her tennis career, Keys has experienced ups and downs this year.

She has not been able to reclaim the magic and outstanding form that led her to win Adelaide and the Australian Open in 2025.

Keys was a French Open semifinalist in 2018 and is seeded 19th in the upcoming Roland Garros event.

Hopefully Madi is healthy enough to play next week. Fans love her on and off the court. Despite being a WTA Tour veteran, fans feel they are getting to know her in a new way on The Player’s Box podcast which she cohosts with Jessica Pegula, Desirae Krawczyk, and Jennifer Brady.
