Swiatek eases past Pegula to reach Italian Open semi-finals
Iga Swiatek put on a commanding display in the Italian Open quarter-finals, easing past Jessica Pegula 6-1, 6-2.
The Polish star was in control throughout the match, putting in a strong performance that will catch the attention of her rivals on tour.
Afterwards, Swiatek spoke about a recent adjustment sheâs made to her game. She explained how itâs starting to show results this week in Rome.
Swiatek says sheâs spinning the ball more and playing like a clay-courter again
During her press conference, Swiatek was asked about how her forehand has been feeling.
âYeah, I mean, Iâve been playing a bit differently, I would say,â said Swiatek.
âMore similar to how I played a couple years ago, more like a clay court player.
âI guess all the things that we practiced really clicked during the last few matches.
Swiatek was then asked about her serve, another area of her game sheâs been working on with her new coach Francisco Roig.
âHonestly, I feel on clay that there is not so much pressure on the serve because itâs not so easy to get free points,â she said.
Iga Swiatek awaits either Svitolina or Rybakina in Italian Open semi-final
Swiatekâs win over Pegula secured her place in the semi-finals, where she could face either Elina Svitolina or Elena Rybakina.
Both players have been impressive this season, though Swiatek has a stronger record against Svitolina, having won four of their six previous encounters.
Svitolina and Rybakina will play their quarter-final on Wednesday, May 13th. The winner will move on to meet Swiatek in the semi-finals later that week.
