How the British top five now looks following Harriet Dart title win in Guangzhou

Harriet Dart has just achieved her greatest feat as a professional tennis player.

After 11 years on the circuit, the British player has finally won her first WTA Tour-level title.

Dart produced a stunning comeback effort to down Austrian prodigy Lilli Tagger in Sunday’s Guangzhou Open final, triumphing 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 against the fourth seed.

The 30-year-old has become only the sixth British WTA title winner since 2000.

Dart is now set to shoot up the WTA rankings, overtaking a fellow Briton in the process.

Harriet Dart is set to rise to British number three

Katie Boulter, who won her fourth WTA title in Ostrava, Czechia, earlier this year, will remain as the British number one following this week’s action.

The Briton, who has quickly reclaimed the top spot from Sonay Kartal, will be ranked 49th on the Tour when the rankings are updated on Monday.

Kartal, a finalist at the Wuhan Open last month, will be ranked 52nd on the circuit.

Harriet Dart will become the new British number three following her success in Guangzhou. The Briton will rise 32 places to world number 83, overtaking Francesca Jones, who will be ranked 98th.

Emma Raducanu rounds out the top five. The 2021 US Open champion, who has not played a match since reaching the Queen’s Club Championships final in June, will be ranked 106th following the rankings update.

The British top five following the 2026 Guangzhou Open

How did Harriet Dart react after winning the Guangzhou Open?

“Since I was a little girl, lifting a trophy on the WTA Tour has been something I’ve dreamt of. To be able to finally do it is amazing,” Dart told BBC Sport on Sunday after capturing the Guangzhou Open title.

“It’s crazy to be sitting here as champion after coming through qualifying – it’s mad really.

“It’s been a wild week – I’m super proud of myself.”

Dart was due to play in the Chennai Open following her successful week in China. The Briton was set to play Uzbekistani player Polina Kudermetova in the first round of the WTA 250 event.

However, it appears that Dart has since withdrawn from the event. Kudermetova, seeded sixth in the Indian city, will now play Viktoria Morvayova.

Janice Tjen is the defending champion in Chennai. The Indonesian player has returned to the 2026 event as the top seed.
