Jannik Sinner kept his impressive run going at the Italian Open, easing past Andrey Rublev in straight sets to reach the semifinals.

The Italian, chasing a sixth consecutive ATP Masters 1000 title, won 6-2, 6-4 to move into the final four in Rome. His run of form has been nothing short of remarkable.

Sinner also made history by breaking Novak Djokovic’s record for the longest winning streak at Masters tournaments, pushing his own tally to 32 consecutive victories.

He hasn’t lost a match since February’s Qatar Open quarterfinals and has picked up four titles in that time.

Sinner’s win over Rublev also saw him match a milestone previously held only by Rafael Nadal in men’s tennis.

Sinner follows in Nadal’s footsteps after Rome victory

Sinner has joined Nadal in an exclusive club by becoming the second player to reach the semifinals at the first five ATP Masters 1000 events of a season.

Nadal made the final four in Indian Wells, Miami, Monte-Carlo, Madrid and Rome during his historic 2010 season.

The Spanish legend lost in the semifinals of both Indian Wells and Miami but won all three clay-court Masters tournaments that year before going on to win Roland Garros as well.

In 2011, Nadal managed five straight trips to the semifinals again, but this time he only won the Monte-Carlo Masters.

Sinner’s last defeat at an ATP Masters 1000 tournament came in Shanghai last year, where he was forced to retire in the third round due to cramping.

Sinner closing in on title, waiting to find out next opponent

Jannik Sinner is still waiting to find out who he’ll play next, with Daniil Medvedev and Martin Landaluce set to square off for the right to meet him in the semifinals.

Sinner is no stranger to Medvedev, holding a 9-7 edge in their previous meetings. Their most recent encounter came earlier this year at Indian Wells, where Sinner won two tiebreaks to lift the trophy.

But if it’s Landaluce who advances, it’ll be their first meeting. The 20-year-old has been impressive so far this tournament, dropping just one set along the way.
