It’s been a disappointing year for Carlos Alcaraz and his fans following his Australian Open triumph early in the year. A wrist injury has led to him missing several tournaments, including Wimbledon.
There was optimism about a US Open return, but his recent withdrawal from the Cincinnati Open set off alarm bells for some. Whether he will be able to play is one of the biggest questions in tennis right now.
While he may not be able to participate competitively to get back up to speed, Alcaraz is still training. A clip of him practicing went viral, and social media sleuths are all jumping to their own conclusions.

There is no world in which Alcaraz himself will be okay missing another major tournament if he can get healthy. And to get back in time, he’s been training in Murcia, Spain.
A video of him in training hit social media this week, and it has fans divided. Some think he’s on the way to recovery, while others have observed signs which suggest otherwise.
“Oh we’re not coming back this year… Let’s try again in 2027,” one pessimistic fan commented. “I can see why they pulled out of Cincy. He’s not ready yet,” a different fan added.
“Look at that wrapping on the arm and wrist. Look at the tentative third forehand swing, not to mention the clunky backhand. I don’t see how he plays the US Open,” read a comment from another doubter.
There are those who believe, too. One fan said, “Going smooth on that recovery. Favourite hairstyle so far too, Carlos.” Another added, “He’s got that wrist taped up, but he looks ready for the US Open to me.”
“It doesn’t look to me like he’s had any injury setbacks… I think all they want to do is make sure he’s ready to handle 5 setters if he does come back at USO,” said a post that summed up the positive views.
Ultimately, only the Spanish sensation and his team know if he’ll be able to make his return for the US Open. Whether they think he will or not, all tennis fans will want to see him on the court, though.
