The blockbuster trade of Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat left the entire NBA world stunned, and even Serena Williams was shocked by the news.
The tennis legend, who is also a Heat fan, shared her excitement about getting to watch the superstar in action at the Kaseya Center next season.
Serena Williams Reacts to Giannis Antetokounmpo to Miami Heat Trade
Williams, who is gearing up for a spectacular return to action at the 2026 Wimbledon Championships at the age of 44, found out the news of Antetokounmpo being traded to the Heat while practicing at the All England Club on Tuesday. The video of the exchange was later shared by the tournament organizers on Instagram.
“Get out of here,” Williams said before sharing her excitement at the news, adding, “No! As in the basketball team? No way! Yes! Are you serious? Oh that’s so good! Finally, I can go to the games again. Oh, that’s huge! Oh, that just made my day,” she said.
The news of the Antetokounmpo trade broke late on Monday night as the Heat finally landed “Greek Freak” after chasing his signature for several years. The two-time NBA MVP is regarded as one of the greatest forwards of all time and will hope to kick-start a new era in Miami.
Antetokounmpo enjoyed a storied 13-year spell with the Milwaukee Bucks and helped them win their first NBA championship in 50 years.
A Florida native, Williams has attended several Miami Heat games over the years. She also famously attended the 2014 Eastern Conference Finals featuring the Heat and the Indiana Pacers alongside fellow tennis star Caroline Wozniacki.
Her interest in basketball also extends to an ownership role of the Toronto Tempo, Canada’s first-ever WNBA franchise. Williams also holds an ownership stake in the Miami-based NFL franchise – the Dolphins.
Williams, who retired from tennis in 2022, made a stunning comeback earlier this month at the HSBC Championships. She competed in doubles alongside Victoria Mboko before partnering with Karolína Muchová at the Berlin Tennis Open.
At the Wimbledon Championships, Williams will reunite with older sister Venus as they look to pull off the improbable and win a 15th Grand Slam doubles title together.
Williams has also received a wildcard for the women’s singles event at the 2026 event, where she will look to roll back the years and add to her tally of 23 Major titles. The 2026 Wimbledon Championships will begin on Monday.
