Britain’s Esther Adeshina said it was a “dream” to be playing in Wimbledon qualifying after achieving the biggest win of her career to move within two victories of a place in the main draw.
The 24-year-old beat Japan’s former top-50 player Moyuka Uchijima 6-1 3-6 7-5 in after almost two hours in stifling heat in Roehampton.
World number 514 Adeshina, will next face France’s Harmony Tan, who famously beat Serena Williams on her way to the Wimbledon fourth round in 2022.
“That was unbelievable,” Adeshina said.
“I was just thinking one point at a time. I was looking over to my team a lot, just trying to breathe and enjoy the moment.
“It means a lot to me, being British and playing at home. I have been coming to watch Wimbledon since I was young – it’s a dream.”
Also in Wimbledon qualifying, 15-year-old Daniella Britton – given a qualifying wildcard after winning the under-16s and under-18s national championships – was edged out 2-6 6-2 6-4 by Argentine Julia Riera.

Hussey stuns French Open semi-finalist Arnaldi
In Eastbourne, British qualifier Giles Hussey stunned French Open semi-finalist Matteo Arnaldi to reach the second round.
The 293rd-ranked Hussey beat world number 30 Arnaldi 6-4 6-2 to set up a meeting with Frenchman Quentin Halys.
Arnaldi, 29, was playing his first tournament since being forced to withdraw before his last-four match at Roland Garros with illness.
Hussey won his first Challenger title in South Africa last month and secured straight-set wins over 78th-ranked James Duckworth and world number 94 Marco Trungelliti to qualify for just the second ATP Tour event of his career.
In the women’s draw, Italy’s top seed Jasmine Paolini was beaten 6-4 6-3 by Germany’s Tatjana Maria, who won the Queen’s title last year.
In the men’s doubles, Briton Joe Salisbury and American Rajeev Ram, who have reunited after a successful partnership from 2018 to 2024, won their opening match.
Salisbury and Ram, who have won four major trophies together, prevailed 6-1 6-3 against French duo Terence Atmane and Luca Sanchez.
