23-time Grand Slam singles champion Serena Williams is set to join forces with Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz for the upcoming US Open 2026 mixed doubles event, while Novak Djokovic will partner Aryna Sabalenka.
Williams returned to tennis in June 2026, four years after retiring from the sport. However, the 44-year-old American has endured a difficult comeback, losing to Maya Joint in the Wimbledon singles event in July before suffering a doubles defeat alongside her elder sister Venus Williams at the ongoing Cincinnati Open on Monday.
Alcaraz is also returning to action after a four-month hiatus caused by a wrist injury. The setback ruled him out of defending his Roland Garros title and competing at Wimbledon 2026.
The Williams-Alcaraz pairing has received a wildcard for the tournament’s main draw. They are scheduled to take the court on August 25-26, a week before the singles and doubles main draws get underway.
A look at 2026 US Open mixed doubles teams
Alongside Williams and Alcaraz, several other high-profile pairings will feature in the competition.
Djokovic will team up with Sabalenka, while Australian Open champion Elena Rybakina will partner Taylor Fritz. Six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek will join forces with Casper Ruud.
Defending champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori are the only other pairing to receive a main-draw wildcard.
The US Open mixed doubles event underwent a controversial overhaul last year, with more singles stars entering the competition in an effort to increase its appeal and attract a wider audience.
The revamped format also introduced a shorter scoring system. Before the final, sets are won by the first pair to reach four games, there is no advantage scoring and matches feature a 10-point tie-break instead of a deciding third set.
With several of the sport’s biggest names involved, the 2026 US Open mixed doubles event will feature a number of intriguing pairings.
