French Open 2026: Anna Kalinskaya somehow holds off Anastasia Potapova in crazy match

Anna Kalinskaya has advanced to the 2026 French Open quarterfinals for the first time in her professional tennis career.

There were times during her match with friend Anastasia Potapova where it did not look like she would get over the finish line.

Potapova served for the match two times. Kalinskaya looked hampered physically. Potapova ran out to a quick lead in the third set tiebreaker yet somehow Kalinskaya emerged the victor.

Opportunity awaits Kalinskaya in open section of draw

The winner of this match knew that she was in an opportune section of the draw. Kalinskaya will face the winner of the Maja Chwalinska and Diane Parry match. She has never faced Chwalinska and has one win over Parry in their only meeting last year at the Madrid Open.

A crazy French Open continues

The number of seeds out in the women’s draw brings a good opportunity for the rest. Prior champions Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff, 2026 Australian Open champion Elena Rybakina, and recent Grand Slam finalists Amanda Anisimova and Jessica Pegula are out.

Who capitalizes on an open draw is the lingering question that will be answered as the week progresses. Watch the French Open on TNT Sports and Tennis Channel through June 7.
