ESPN adds Genie Bouchard for US Open tennis coverage

ESPN has shaken up its tennis coverage with the addition of several new voices for its grand slam tournament coverage, and former Canadian star Genie Bouchard is the latest addition.

Coming into this year, ESPN added NBA host Malika Andrews, Katie George, and Rece Davis as hosts with longtime anchor Chris McKendry moving into the broadcast booth.

Perhaps the most notable addition to ESPN’s tennis coverage is former major winner Andy Roddick, who was the fresh face and voice that the network desperately needed. Yes, it’s been a while since Roddick was contending for majors and battling the likes of Roger Federer, and he’s had a lengthy media career already, but his presence and insights were a major boost at Wimbledon.

And now ESPN is looking to add another more contemporary voice in Genie Bouchard. The network announced on Thursday that she would be part of its US Open presentation as the tournament begins next week.

The 2014 Wimbledon finalist reached as high as fifth in the world rankings and quickly became one of the most popular and personable stars on the tennis circuit. She even once followed through on a date with a Twitter follower after losing a Super Bowl bet. More recently, she has even traveled between the worlds of professional tennis and pickleball.

But as her top-level tennis career has wound down due to injuries, Genie Bouchard has made a name for herself as a media personality. She has done work for not just the Tennis Channel, but also TNT Sports’ coverage of the French Open at Roland-Garros earlier this year. It’s a wise addition for ESPN to continue their momentum in reshaping what they do and answering TNT, who has certainly raised the bar for coverage of their sport.

ESPN will air three weeks of US Open tennis coverage, including the qualifying tournaments on ESPN+ that start on August 24 and the mixed doubles championship on August 26.
