DC Open: Finals delayed by weather, Jessica Pegula’s title match suspended

WASHINGTON — The Mubadala DC Open finals have not been going as planned.

Ahead of Sunday’s matches, the tournament initially adjusted the start time of the women’s singles final to noon and the men’s final to no earlier than 2:30 p.m. because of expected rain. However, severe weather in the area delayed the women’s final by roughly three hours as it began at 3 p.m.

Jessica Pegula took the first set, 6-4, but the match was once again suspended early in the second set, with Alexandra Eala leading 2-1. The latest update from the tournament is that the women’s match will resume no earlier than 6:00 p.m., and no update has been provided for the projected start time of the men’s singles final between Taylor Fritz and Rafael Jodar.
