Daniil Medvedev is currently enjoying a stellar run of form, having won two titles and now reaching three semi-finals in the last month.
His latest has come here at the Vienna Open, where he will face Carlos Alcaraz for the first time since beating him in the Indian Wells semi-final.
It promises to be an enthralling affair, with both matches in the Austrian capital definitely worth watching.
However, despite his seemingly faultless form, which has brought him to this stage dropping just a single set, Daniil Medvedev remains unimpressed with one element of this event.
Speaking after his latest win over Adrian Mannarino, he did not hold back.
Daniil Medvedev’s issue with the Vienna Open courts
Medvedev has never been shy about voicing his displeasure with issues in tennis, whether it be the balls, the conditions, the umpire or something else entirely.
Off the court, he is a hilarious and affable individual seemingly liked by all.
However, on court, he has been known to let himself down with his behaviour at times.
During his win over Mannarino, he was seen punching the court midway through, in a confusing series of events.
It is now clear why he reacted like this; speaking after to Tennis TV, Medvedev outlined his frustration with the court.
He admitted: “My level is great now. When I’m in confidence, I always know how to keep it.
“So, I was always one of the best players in the world when I’m in the groove, and I am in the groove now.
“But it doesn’t change today — I won 6-2, 6-3 — I’m not gonna change my mind, I’m not gonna be standing here saying: ‘yeah, the court became much better.’
“In my opinion, for an indoor hard court, that’s not a good court.”
Medvedev tried to be understanding, but that did not detract from his stance.
He added: “I understand that we have to diversify the conditions to be able to show different skills of players, but indoor hard courts are about serve, it’s about, even — I don’t do it — but it’s about serve and volley. Here, if someone serves and volleys, he’s gonna lose 6-1, 6-1 probably.

“In my opinion, that’s just not right for indoor hard courts.”
Regardless of his issues, Medvedev’s recent form has made him one of the favourites to win the ATP Finals. He has officially confirmed his spot with this latest performance in Vienna.
