Last week, ESPN national NFL reporter Lindsey Thiry was blindsided by what can only be described as a mutant wasp while reporting from Los Angeles Rams training camp on NFL Live. Apparently, it’s an epidemic. A ladybug ambushed Danielle Collins during Tennis Channel’s TC Live broadcast from the National Bank Open in Montreal on Saturday.

Collins began hunching over the desk and laughing hysterically. “I don’t know where it went,” Collins said. Simultaneously, she pulled her hair back to reveal the ladybug perched just above her eyebrow. “Ahhhhhhhhhh!” Collins screamed as soon as she saw it.

“It’s a ladybug, so it’s good luck,” Steve Weissman said off-camera. “Look, it’s a ladybug. That means TC Live is gonna be so great.”

The camera panned to the ladybug on Steve Johnson’s pinky finger, while Collins continued to cackle. “I thought it was, like, a spider or something,” Collins said. “I couldn’t see it because it was on my eye, but thank god, it was a friendly little thing. Alright, make a wish!”

Collins has been a mainstay on the Tennis Channel in 2026 after stepping away from playing tennis to heal from a back injury and freeze her eggs.

“Wanted to come on here and give everyone a little update since everyone has been asking!” Collins captioned an Instagram carousel last December. “I’ve been taking the last few months off to recover from the back injury I had at the end of the season. I’ve also been undergoing a few egg freezing procedures. It’s been one of the coolest things I’ve honestly ever done! But at the same time these hormones I have had to be on are a real b****.

“I am so fortunate for the friends that have been helping take care of me during this time [white heart emoji]. I have one more procedure to go. With all of this, I will not be competing during the first part of the year. But you will be seeing me in a different capacity with @tennischannel. This is all I will be sharing for now. More updates to come.”

Collins turned pro and joined the WTA Tour in 2016, and she has won four singles titles, coming her closest to winning a Grand Slam when she lost to Ashleigh Barty in the 2022 Australian Open final. Collins announced her tennis retirement in 2024, but before the year’s end, she reversed her decision and decided to play in 2025. She last played at the 2025 US Open. Whenever Collins does decide to retire for good, it’s clear she’ll have a home at Tennis Channel.
