Coco Gauff revealed the emotional moment she FaceTimed her family straight from the court after winning the Cincinnati Open title. The American said that her whole family was left beaming with smiles which made her win all the more meaningful.
On Sunday, it was the first all-American womenâs finals clash in Cincinnati since 1970. Coco Gauff took on the Mubadala DC Open finalist Jessica Pegula at the Lindner Family Tennis Center. She won 6-2, 6-4 to capture her second Cincinnati title.
After the match, Gauff took center stage and gave an emotional victory speech, where she thanked her parents Candi and Corey Gauff for always being there for her, and also thanked her brothers before revealing the FaceTime moment.
Later, Gauff posted a story on Instagram which shows her family members all gathered up for a FaceTime with the new champion.
As per The Tennis Letter on X, Gauff said:
âThank you to my parents.. Back at home, my brothers and grandparents.. all the family and friends that have been cheering for me and praying for me.. I FaceTimed them after right there on the bench. It was good to see their faces and them smile.â
âUsually I just get a âgood jobâ text. It was nice to get a bit more than that đ. Iâd like to thank God for just bringing me through these tough periods. Last year I was literally in the parking lot like in tears. Itâs a big difference what a year can make. So I thank him for pulling me through.â â€ïž.â
Gauffâs dad, Corey Gauff was her first coach and took his daughter to significant levels before she turned professional.
Coco Gauffâs Dominant Win Over Pegula to Claim Second Cincinnati Title
Coco Gauff headed into the first all-American womenâs clash in Cincinnati in 56 years after dominating her semifinal match against Sara Bejlek on Saturday. Pegula did the same against the now-former womenâs Cincinnati Open champion, Iga Swiatek.
Gauff started with a dominant 5-0 lead, and after Pegula won two games, Gauff won another to close out the set. Pegula did better in the second set, but ultimately Gauff won 6-2, 6-4. She converted five of six break points along the way. The win was her first title of 2026.
Gauff is expected to enter the top five in the rankings and head into Flushing Meadows as the No. 4 seed.
